Full Grain Leather
Full grain leather is an animal hide or skin that has not been altered in any way except for dyeing and finishing. Nothing from the hide's surface (except for hair) is removed leaving the natural grain intact including any scars or other natural markings. Full grain is considered the "gold standard" as only hides with few natural markings (cows have lots of markings!) can be finished using full grain. When hides have too many natural markings they are "corrected" by lightly buffing the surface of the hide - the leather then becomes classified as top grain. ​ Full grain is most commonly used in aniline dyed leather (like our Restoration Collection below). However, full grain hides can be used for any type of upholstery leather including our plush Urban Collection that is finished with pigments instead.

Restoration Italia
The Restorations evoke a time when leather finishing was done by the hands of master craftsmen. This full aniline dyed leather has a deep and rich patina (color). Because aniline dyes are absorbed differently across the hide, the color has "depth" as slight variations in tones create a stunning, timeless look.

Restoration Distress
For our Restoration Distress version, we took our stunning Restorations and milled them in a large wooden drum. The milling releases some of the oil and waxes in the leather creating burst of lighter tones across the hide. This "pull up" or distress effect is often associated with a classic vintage look but is also commonly used in modern pieces.

Urban
Urban combines rich color, supple soft feel, and a premium full grain cowhide into a leather that exudes luxury. Urban is a heavyweight upholstery hide that is extra plush and full-bodied. Our customers love it!
