Pull-Up Leather

Pull-up leather is made with oils, waxes, and aniline dyes that develop a vintage or distressed patina with use.  The name "pull-up" comes from the process of pulling the leather tightly over the corners of a furniture frame while upholstering.  Stretching the leather this way creates a multitone patina that has a warm and timeless appeal.  The furniture will continue to develop a vintage look with regular use - commonly called distress leather at this point.

Restoration Italia (shown below) is our classic pull-up leather.  We make our Restoration Distress version by turning our Restoration Italia hides in large wooden mills.  The "milling" accelerates the distressing process and does in minutes what might take months or years to achieve.  Remember, these leathers have a wax-based topcoat that is intended to patina and even scratch or mark with use.  A quality leather conditioner will blend in these markings resulting in a rich, more uniform appearance.

The Restorations evoke a time when leather finishing was done by the hands of master craftsmen. This full aniline dyed leather has a deep and rich patina (color). Because aniline dyes are absorbed differently across the hide, the color has "depth" as slight variations in tones create a stunning, timeless look.

For our Restoration Distress version, we took our stunning Restorations and milled them in a large wooden drum. The milling releases some of the oil and waxes in the leather creating burst of lighter tones across the hide. This "pull up" or distress effect is often associated with a classic vintage look but is also commonly used in modern pieces.
