Leather Types

All of our premium upholstery leather will be made on either full or top grain cowhide. Both make beautiful, long-lasting finished upholstery leather.  However, the different ways leather can be "finished"  to create a color, pattern, or patina is almost limitless. Leather can be finished with dyes, pigments, or a combination of both. Also, the surface can be smooth, natural, or pebble grained.  Some leathers have a waxy feel while others are "buttery soft."

To help you find the perfect leather for your upholstery project we have sorted the finishes into the most common types. We have cheated a little and added full grain as a "type" because we get many inquiries requesting our "full grain upholstery leather."  (A little secret is the majority of upholstery leather is made on top grain hides and most upholsterers can't tell the difference.)  So relax, order some samples, and let's find that perfect leather!
