Pebble leather, commonly known as pebble grain leather, has a bumpy, pebble-like texture that is pressed (typically with heavy metal rollers) onto the surface of an animal hide. Pebble leather has come a long way since the first pebble embossing machine was patented in 1864. Today, there are hundreds of pebble patterns that tanneries can choose from. Tanneries often use pebbling to create depth and interest even coloring the pebbles differently than the "valleys" or the space between the pebbles. Tumbling leather hides in large mills is another way to create a pebble effect while also softening the leather. Below we offer leathers that fall into this category. They are pebbled through milling, not embossing, and thus have a more varied, natural-looking grain with areas of both distinct and subtle pebbling. Did we mention they were soft!!!
