Semi-Aniline Leather
Semi-aniline leather is made with aniline dyes and an additional fine layer of matching pigment. The pigment is applied to give the leather a more uniform color while maintaining the natural leather grain including natural markings. A clear protective top coat (water-based urethane or paraffin wax) is then applied to protect against stains and wear while retaining the natural look of aniline leather. Over the years, "semi-aniline leather" has become more of a generic term as tanneries have moved towards finishes that have a greater ratio of pigment to dyes to improve color consistency and durability. Our mulitone Jazz Collection (see below) is one such example. By contrast, Our Restoration Collections are traditional semi-anilines where only a fine layer of pigment is applied and the natural grain, including markings, is visible and desired. Only the "best condition" cowhides can be used for this type of semi-aniline leather.

Restoration Italia
The Restorations evoke a time when leather finishing was done by the hands of master craftsmen. This full aniline dyed leather has a deep and rich patina (color). Because aniline dyes are absorbed differently across the hide, the color has "depth" as slight variations in tones create a stunning, timeless look.

Restoration Distress
For our Restoration Distress version, we took our stunning Restorations and milled them in a large wooden drum. The milling releases some of the oil and waxes in the leather creating burst of lighter tones across the hide. This "pull up" or distress effect is often associated with a classic vintage look but is also commonly used in modern pieces.
